Lord Reeve Malliston, Duke of Nidderdale, returned from the Battle of Salamanca with two missing fingers and his hearing damaged. Less than a month later his wife mysteriously dies. Sociey nicknames Lord Reeve the Duke of Havoc for his lifestyle of drinking, gambling, and constant partying. At Thornlands, Lord Reeve has a cook, a housekeeper, and her sister that is caretaker of his daughters. There are constant shouting matches between these three women. Lord Reeve promised his wife to always provide a home and employment for his housekeeper and the caretaker. However, after a particularly loud fight, Lord Reeve realizes a change is needed and writes to a former soldier to see if his daughter would be willing to become governess to his daughters Sophie and Phoebe. Miss Caroline Sedgwyck arrives and immediately starts challenging Lord Reeve about his behavior around his daughters, and their care. This is the first book I have read by Whitney Blake and I really enjoyed the characters and interaction betwen Lord Reeve and Miss Caroline. I encourage you to read this book, I know I am looking forward to reading other books written by Whitney Blake.

Shortly after his return home his wife died and everyone is convinced he killer her so now he’s left caring for his two daughters. He decides he needs a new governess for them and writes to one of his army friends who has a accomplished daughter for his help. Miss Caroline Sedgwyck arrives and is quite taken with the girls, she becomes very protective of them even chastising their father for his neglect and amoral behaviors. Caroline is attracted to her employer, but she knows they’re from different station in life and offers her advice and friendship. Reeve’s slowly comes to realize his girls need him and maybe he just might need Caroline as well. A captivating story of a wounded warrior who doesn’t quite know how to carry on by himself and shuts out the people who most love him. There’s two old biddies who you just want to strangle for their hateful words and actions. A captivating story of love blossoming as these two wills battle and come to realize they both want the same thing, love happiness and family. This my honest opinions after I voluntarily read a copy of this book that was provided to me with no requirements for a review.
â¤ï¸â¤ï¸â¤ï¸â¤ï¸ðŸ’‹In battle Reeve Malliston, Duke Of Nidderdale is injure , loosing two fingers, part of his hearing and some would say his mind too .He returns to a home where he’s greeted by his two small daughters whom he has no idea how to love and be a father too , and his wife who he holds little affection for .His world is hounded after her death, by two servants , sisters , who served her and now in there own way serve themselves.His response is to gamble , drink and whore his life away selfishly, that’s until he offers the post of Governess to a friends daughter.Miss Caroline Sedgwick is more than he bargained for , she befriends his daughters in minutes and drags him and his household into line and gives him reasons to fight .A great book that I really enjoyed reading , a first from this author for me and not my last .It was engaging and moorish as were the characters, so many options in there to choose from , should she wish to make this a series .I received an advance copy of this book and chose to submit a review
This is the first book by Whitney Blake and see it is to be a series.Not only was storyline great but the characters were well portrayed throughout the entire book.Reeves is a lost man who has lost his wife and is left with two small girls upon his return from war. Rumors are that he killed his wife and left him with the two little ones. Reeves was not used to worrying about little ones especially little girls and the two sisters who had come with his wife were the housekeeper and the governess but on a time home the girls told him they had threatened to paddle and he told them that was not going to happen. He remembers one of his comrades during the war and contacts him to send his daughter to become the new governess for the Sophie and Phoebe.Caroline takes the position but soon has many concerns and confronts Reeves to get them resolved, this when the change takes place and the story really starts.Have enjoyed and looking forward to more from this series.
