This book offers a really good basic introduction to Qigong aimed at the average Qigong novice or even people that have various limitations due to illness. For anyone not sure what Qigong is, it could maybe very loosely be described as super-gentle and simple Tai Chi combined with some breathing exercises, visualisations and sometimes some simple meditation techniques.It makes sense to me that improving circulation, and so Qi (or Chi), can be helpful when you are treating disease. If there is no blood flow to an area, it can't heal. Qigong can also improve respiratory and digestive function, and give you a calmer and less cluttered mind. Keeping your body out of 'adrenaline mode' as much as possible also facilitates healing, as healing can occur only after the ANS shifts from Sympathetic to Parasympathetic dominance (rest, relax and repair mode).I have a disease with some similarities to M.S. (Myalgic Encepahalomyelitis, or M.E.) I'm housebound and 98% bedbound. Being very inactive and bedbound means you really need to improve your circulation if at all possible, as anyone bedbound will know! Using up up to 5 minutes of my 30 - 60 or so minutes a day I can be upright on Qigong seems a reasonable idea to me. This is right on the cusp of what I am able to do, so I am not sure if I can do it yet but I am going to give it a try very soon and am looking forward to it.My disease is very slowly improving and even these simple exercises would have been impossible a year ago or even 6 months ago. Despite what some people say, Qigong is not something even in a very simplified version that everyone that is ill will be able to do. It is demanding to do if you are very ill (as is meditation) and should not be done until you feel you can cope with it without causing yourself any type of relapse.I'm not a fan of Qigong or similar as the only or primary treatment for serious disease though - as if you have nutrient deficiencies and toxin overload which has lead to your disease then you need to correct those things and no amount of Qigoing is going to do that. If you are low in vitamin B6 or magnesium then you need those things and nothing else will do! But Qigong may well have an important role to play in improving circulation, lowering the body's stress levels and promoting a relaxed and healing central nervous system state as part of a larger program encompassing a nutrient dense diet, intelligent supplementation and various detoxification protocols - if you are well enough to do it.Combing meditation and/or Qigong with great books that talk about genuine healing and treating the causes of disease such as Primal Body, Primal Mind: Beyond the Paleo Diet for Total Health and a Longer Life, Detoxify or Die, and Curing the Incurable: Vitamin C, Infectious Diseases, and Toxins can only help your health improve, depending on how much damage done is permanent.I got 4 very well reviewed books on Qigong out from my local library and read them all over a two week period:1. Qigong illustrated2. Heal yourself with qigong : gentle practices to increase energy, restore health, and relax the mind3. Qigong for multiple sclerosis : finding your feet again4. Dragon and tiger medical qigong : health and energy in seven simple movementsThe MS book was the one that was the most simple and non-demanding and the most suited for an ill person - even though it didn't really have any lying down exercises as I had hoped. The fourth book was completely inappropriate for me and featured exercises way too advanced and difficult for anyone that is seriously or even moderately ill in my opinion. The first two books were very good and had lots of simple standing exercises. I liked them both so much that I ended up buying my own copies to work from.Qigong illustrated wasn't quite as good as Heal yourself with qigong, so if I had to choose just one of the two books I'd definitely go with the latter. The introductory text was of a far higher quality and very well done, I preferred the illustrations being in line drawing format rather than photos (which can be less clear), and there was a greater variety of exercises given that didn't look very difficult. It contains exercises on breathing, sending chi to your heart, or liver, or kidneys plus exercises to help undo the shoulder issues of being on a computer for too long and lots more.Even if you are ill, or not that fit, or not that co-ordinated or good with balance or meditation, this book offers a really good non-overwhelming starting point, and is very well done. I recommend it. If you are ill I also recommend seeing if your library has any of these three books before buying them to check that they suit your abilities, if you can.This author also has a Qigong website and videos available.Jodi Bassett, The Hummingbirds' Foundation for M.E. I know that Qigong is an effective therapy as I witnessed a close friend under treatment provided by a therapist in Sterling Heights, Mich. When the treatment began, my friend,Chuck had been told by his physician that he only had a few months to live because of Leukemia. This occurred almost 9-years ago. There has been NO CURRANCE. I know several people who have learned how to administer Qigong in classes with CHUCK 's therapist. I am learning Qigong by studying Suzanne Friedman's book. I am very pleased with my progress.

Like the exercises but the Kindle version (and maybe even the book?) has the worst drawings! I wish they used photographs of real people in the different positions as they are explained.

There is something for everyone in this book, whether you're a complete beginner in Qigong, or have experience. Author Suzanne Freidman has given deceptively simple exercises and movements which create impressive results. All the exercises are gentle, easy to follow, illustrated with drawings, and take five minutes or less. They cover everything from stress reduction/relaxation to weight loss, blood pressure reduction, and headache relief. Meditations and acupoint stimulations are also included.My personal favorites include an energizing exercise called Wash Your Face (amazing, instant results), the Waterfall Visualization to purge stress (really soothing), Gathering Earth Energy (very grounding), and Liver Qi Massage (mood stabilizer).Anyone can do these exercises, regardless of physical condition (all exercises can be done standing or sitting) or time constraints. Pick and choose depending on your need of the moment. I highly recommend this book.

A good academic text book, however, extremely theoretical and with some surprising "voids" on important topics. The book had served its purpose better if a few more examples and references to industrial cases were included. Some explanations fall short of what I suspect to be their intention at times. Students using this book would enjoy it as a book of reference for development. But as an aid to help them place MA in a business perspective it fails.

It is a good exposition of algorithmic game-theory. I bought it to understand more about how computer science people look at game-theory. Sometimes I cringe with the language (e.g. "instantiation" ?) but overall it is well-written and a nice text-book, although I would not teach from it.

I have been looking for books on game theory and software development ever since I completed my game theory class. I am still reading this book, but I really like it so far.

have been interested in constraint optimization problems. MAS casted a fresh perspective on solving such problems, which led to more system-wise algorithms.

This book is a fantastic introduction to game theory where the authors are cleverly worried about the algorithms used to solve the problems. Therefore, it provides a great link among computer science, economic theory and operational research.The structure of the book is based on very clear definitions, elucidating examples and theorems (not all proved, but several ones are proved). A great point of the book is the updated list of references in the last section of each chapter that can help the interested the reader find additional information about each topic is being taught in the book.Chapter 1 introduces the problem of Distributed constraint satisfaction that will be used later in the book to compute the Nash equilibrium.Chapter 2 is a basic introduction to dynamic programming and auction theory.Chapters 3, 4 and 5 provide an introduction to decision theory and basic game theory. The bonus of these chapters is the list of algorithms that are presented in order to compute the equilibriums. It is worth mentioning that these chapters are as good as the best available introductions to game theory. All the basic topics are clearly covered.Chapter 6 presents more specific representations of games. Some of them are very common in other books (such as Repeated games and Bayesian games), but others (such as congestion games) are not very common.Chapter 7 deals with learning and teaching. The main topics of this chapter are two very uncommon topics in game theory books, namely reinforcement learning (you may find for instance in the fantastic book of Suton and Barto or Bertsekas) and evolutionary game theory (you may find in Game theory evolving - Gints, Evolutionary game theory - Weibull, Evolutionary Games and Population Dynamics - Hofbauer and Sigmund, but not the most common books of game theory).Chapter 8 is about communication. This is a very interesting presentation of the topic Doing by talking (cheap talk) X Talking by doing (signaling games). Furthermore, an unusual topic of this chapter is presentation of the speech act theory dealing with rules of conversation and game theoretical view of speech acts.Chapter 9 is about the difficult to aggregate preferences.Chapter 10 is a clever introduction to mechanism design.Chapter 11 is a very good introduction to auctions.Chapter 12 presents coalitional game theory. This topic may be found for instance in A Course in Game Theory - Martin J. Osborne and Ariel Rubinstein, but the presentation in Osborne and Rubinstein is much more demanding.Chapter 13 and 14 is about the logics of knowledge and belief.Summarizing... This book is not another introduction to game theory, it is much more. It presents a lot of topics not common in other introductions and also presents several useful algorithms. Purchased and successfully quit within one month.I bought the book and left it on the coffee table for a week or two. Picked it up after I returned from a vacation. Read most (3/4), but to be honest, I never finished the book. I didn't need to. I smoked my last cigarette on July 14, 2015 and I have not looked back. I smoked for over 20 years and now I have been free for over six months.I started smoking when I was in high school, 15 or 16. Was a confirmed, moderate to heavy smoker from that point forward (1/2 pack to pack+ a day). I quit once for about a year in 2005-6, cold turkey. I hated it, was miserable, cried a lot and missed smoking all the time. Felt as though I was denying myself the joy and pleasure of smoking.The last six-plus months have been completely different. I do not miss smoking. I feel relieved of a burden. I am confident I will never smoke again and I am so grateful for that. I wanted to quit. I was ready, but I was intimidated and worried I would again miss it forever, so I just put it off over and over again. Then I remembered someone mentioning this book and I figured for less than $15 and with the volume of positive reviews, it was worth a shot.I think wanting to quit/being ready is an important piece of why this book worked for me. I was open to the power of suggestion and it helped me shift my perspective on quitting from one of fear and missing out, to one of joy and gratitude. I read this book in 3 hours. Next day I was still smoking. I was disappointed. Then less than a week later it's like the words soaked in. I quit smoking April 8th. Cold turkey. About a month later my dad ended up in icu on a vent. That's the most stressed I've ever been. I didnt even think about smoking. I am 47 years old and started smoking when I was 14. I have been a non smoker for 2 1/2 months now. Woohoo! This book and prayer really does work. You just have to keep reading and keep praying until the end. As I was reading it, I kept thinking to myself 'there is no way this is going to work' but it really did. I actually even quit before I got to the end of the book but I still finished reading it. If you are truly serious about quitting this is the way to go. It is really easy and didn't bother me a bit. It did take my brain some time to catch up with the fact that I didn't smoke any more. For instance, on my way home from work, I'd reach for my purse to see if I needed to stop and get cigarettes (Oh Wait! I don't smoke anymore, silly girl ...LOL) Or I'd reach for a cigarette to light when I reached a certain road I was traveling on (Again! Hey I don't smoke!) The only other down fall is that I did gain 10lbs. I really watched that my eating didn't change and it didn't but I still put on the 10lbs. The Nicotine, I believe does really affect your metabolism. So now I'm working on getting the 10lbs off. I believe in you, you can do it! Fun read about the French and Indian War. Can't beat the Kindle price of .99 cents. One observation. I lived up in this area many years ago. In the last book, Robert and Tayoga escape from the enemy from the area around Fort Oswego (Oswego, NY). They head east to the shores of Oneida lake where they find a canoe that Tayoga hid and escape over the lake to the east enduring many adventures. The eastern shore of Oneida Lake is less than 25 miles north of the Vale of Onondaga (Onondaga Indian Nation). Since Tayoga is a member of the Onondaga Tribe, they could have simply gone south to the Onondaga Nation for safety and then be escorted to the Lake George area by a band of Onondaga warriors. The French and their Indian allies would not have attacked them for fear of drawing the rest of the Iroquois Confederacy into battle (and thus abandoning their neutrality) and on the side of the English.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone interested in this time period.

Very short book. Everything you might want to know about oysters in Paris and Oyster culture. It drags a bit here and there but worth it. Good simple oystercrecipes at the end.

What a pleasant shock to discover that there were more than a couple of species of oysters and many ways to eat them. I took the book with me to my local restaurant that serves more than one species of oyster and enjoyed experimenting with the options of species and sauces. I shall take the book with me on my next trip to France!
