Read this for a graduate history class, excellent read. I appreciate how the book explored little discussed ramifications of the Civil War, presented an intriguing topic of the War besides the basic military history.

This book is a great look at the role of pornography in Civil War camps. It shows that pornography played a complex role in camp life and then into life after the end of the war. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to learn about an unique aspect of life during the Civil War.

Enlightening and informative, a must read for any history buff wanting to learn about the unknown history of our nation.

This short book is an interesting read, but I think it falls a little short of a full discussion of the subject. It's an academic study, although quite readable. It looks at some aspects of sex in the Union army, but its main topic is really how laws meant to protect soldiers from suspect materials led to the rise of Anthony Comstock and his long reign as self-appointed czar of American purity.Giesberg says her book is interested in the Civil War origins of a "federal conversation" about sex and its regulation. The conversation came to included using the power of the post office to restrict access to information about birth control and abortion. The key chapter is #3, on Anthony Comstock's Civil War. Turns out his stories about being in combat were fake, his war being spent in an entirely calm occupation of Jacksonville, Florida.Reader's advisory: There are several illustrations that are inappropriate for children and that might be considered pornographic. People interested in that kind of material won't find much in this book, though.

A short index.“Why, in the midst of war, did U.S. lawmakers settle on porn as a threat to men’s morals and their bodies, rather than, well, the war?” (p5) “This BOOK’S CENTRAL CLAIM is that paying attention to the Civil War origins of antipornography offers us 2 dividends. (1) By exploring soldiers’ expanded access to and interaction with obscene materials, we can begin to understand THE SEXUAL CULTURE OF THE CAMPS. … (2) Understanding THE LEGISLATIVE REACTION TO PORNOGRAPHY sheds light on how a virtuous, resurgent nation-state sought to assert its moral authority … through emancipation but then also by redefining human relations of the most intimate sort, including sex and [reproductive] rights.” (p6)War is a gendering activity that ritually marks all members of society. … “Men noted women’s flesh-and-blood presence in camp, because it reminded them of home, but doing so marked women as outsiders. … Yet, there are few women in the pages [of this book], and those that are here are mostly imaginary – represented in carte-de-visite (calling cards), adorning the backs of playing cards, awaiting our gaze at the end of a stereoscope [-- ‘an innovation featuring twin images of the same scene that when viewed … gives the illusion of 3-dimensionality or virtually being in the picture’ (p55),] or appear as crude sketches [on the pages of] erotic fiction.” (p8-9) There were also “Stanhope microphotographs – called ‘peeps’ – bead-sized images equipped with a magnifying [lens] mounted on rings, heads of walking sticks, opera glasses, and pistol handles allowing viewers to enjoy them discretely in public.” (p95)“The CHAPTERS ARE ORGANIZED CHRONOLOGICALLY.[CHAPTER 1 describes] the [expanding] antebellum production of [and access to erotic] pornography and the transatlantic attempts to control its circulation [in France, Great Britain and the U.S.] where the Civil War paved the way for the emergence, production and wide distribution of domestically produced porn.” (p9)“The vile book, photograph, and wood-cut were scattered by sutlers, mail agents, and others throughout the army. … The publishers of these works, … ‘human vampires,’ preyed on men far from home using as their [distribution] weapon of choice the U.S. Mail – the very same medium used by mothers, fathers, and wives to entreat men to be good.” (p26) “Pornography would never name the erotica held in ‘gentlemen’s collections’ but applied [it] instead [as] an argument against books, pictures, and other items intended for wide consumption.” (p26) [Hades, it’s social class prejudice.]“Pornography would also never name works written and published by the period’s antislavery luminaries” which employed sexual fantasies accompanied by pain” to emphasize their message. (p27) There was also sectional prejudice -- “the South was regularly compared to a brothel or harem, furthering the association between sex and violence.” (p28)“Begun in local prosecution and coming of age in the Civil War, American porn came to be associated with the experience of soldiering. … When the war began the domestic trade in porn was well-established and entrepreneurial publishers / dealers were posed to take advantage of the war’s particular circumstances and new technologies and mediums. “In the meantime, yellow-covered literature, obscene circulars, and racy magazines made their way with or to the soldiers and became part of the sexual culture of U.S. Army camps.” (p31-32)CHAPTER 2 considers wartime consumption of porn “and follows the mailbags delivered to the front lines, and through an examination of court-martial records and regimental order books locates erotic materials in camp, explores their circulation, and considers U.S. military policy with regard to erotica. … “This chapter includes a discussion of a wide variety of published works, including popular songs and magazines that were not produced with erotic intent but were reimagined and repurposed in the all-male milieu of the U.S. Army camp.” (p10)CAMP CULTURE. Soldiers did domestic duties once performed back home by women. They used and shared porn, played cards, shared very close quarters, etc. Voyeurism was practiced, especially when any woman – whether wife or prostitute -- was alone with an officer or another soldier. However, rape was prosecuted. Fellow soldiers assessed how well, you ‘fit’ their shared expectations for this masculine setting. If not, you were subjected to pranks and abuse, then further evaluated for how ‘you took it’ or ‘stood up’ for yourself.CHAPTER 3 reconstructs Private Anthony Comstock’s actual military experience using surviving fragments from his private diary and that of fellow CT townsman Justus Silliman, regimental orders, and his authorized biography. Comstock enlisted in local Company H of the 17th CT regiment being replenished after suffering 90% casualties, including his POW and MWIA older brother Samuel, on Barlow’s Knoll at Gettysburg in 1863. (p59) Anthony was posted to occupation duty on the SC sea islands, then to St. Augustine, FL during his 19 month service tour. But these wartime experiences recorded at the end of Comstock’s life by his authorized biographer were essentially A REIMAGINED’ HISTORY.“Obscenity was determined by community expectations and values, but in the mid 19th century ‘pornography’ emerged as a creature of the courts. … Something shifted in the balance between obscenity and decency, private and public, and porn emerged as a distinct governmental concern. … [Porn] was defined in courtrooms as something produced with the intention to corrupt ‘young minds’.” (p62-63)Aspiring to become a ‘gentleman’ officer and assigned as a clerk to the unit’s provost marshal, Private “Comstock refused to participate in the culture of the camp or join with them in sin and wickedness.” (p68) He refused to retaliate for the slights heaped upon him and his property, thereby fostering disrespect and further abuse. “Beyond controlling his temper, the young man also confided in his diary when he struggled to control his sexual urges.” (p69) “He experienced the war as a personal crisis in masculinity.” (p70) “In contrast, 2nd Lt. James Graham of the 8th Ohio Volunteers Regiment seized every opportunity for leisure and expressed no misgivings about how he or others spent it.” (p71)In 1883, “Comstock wrote Traps for the Young – an ambitious attempt to trace the routes of violence in young men to obscene reading materials.” (p78) He offered no explanation or proof of the connection between bad books and violent behavior.” (p79)CHAPTER 4 examines the 1865 and more expansive 1873 postwar anti-porn measures that became better known as the [1873] COMSTOCK LAW and particularly “how pornography, birth control, and abortion came to be associated in a cluster of laws reflecting post [Civil War] concerns about marriage and family.” (p10-11)Several U.S. Congressmen actually sought to assist the Union war effort while news from Sherman’s southern campaign was sporadic and Grant’s campaign appeared stalled at Petersburg, VA. Debate on the 13th Amendment and establishing the Freedman’s Bureau in February 1865 led to the Senate considering a formal definition of slave marriage as part of Senate Resolution 82. “Lawmakers defined ‘sufficient proof’ [of legal marriage] as evidence that [a man] and the woman claimed to be his wife have cohabitated together, or associated as husband and wife,” or “evidence that a form or ceremony marriage … has been entered into or celebrated by them. Married ‘slave’ women’s status was to ne determined by their husband’s status. (p82) This overturned southern states’ legal precedence for slave mothers’ children also being slaves. Consequently, the children of enlisted USCT soldiers and legally emancipated blacks would be freed.Among the duties taken up by agents of [the] new Freedman’s Bureau was an ambitious effort to regularize marriage practices among women and men.” (p83) “Many freedmen were forcibly ‘inducted into the regulatory regime of marriage’ by rigorous enforcement of local antibigamy and antifornication laws.” (p84)The YMCA and its military-focused offshoot the U.S. Christian Commission are actively seeking to save the souls of young American males from the evil temptations of pornography. Several U.S. Congressmen and state legislatures carefully scrutinize the mountainous morass of existing legislated law for finger and toeholds upon which to append new legislation defining and protecting morality. The new Federal and state laws explicitly defined what was pornography and its distribution channels. Porn was to be seized and destroyed. Also prohibited by NY law were perceived threats to the institution of marriage like any “article or medicine for the prevention of conception or procuring an abortion.” (p89) “Doctors took advantage of [the trend for definition] to target a range of unlicensed medical providers … including birth control and abortion services performed by midwives, homeopaths, and others. … Pornography came to be associated in lawmakers’ minds and in state laws with other perceived [societal] ills, such as prostitution, abortion, birth control,” Mormon polygamy practices, miscegenation, and incest. (p90-91) “Anthony Comstock first turned the attention of the YMCA … to the threat of sodomy, adding the performances and publications of NY’s gay community to the long list of obscenities he was authorized to combat.” (p102) “Laws against pornography and those outlawing abortion and contraception lingered well into the 20th century.” (p99)The dominant marketing, sales and distribution channels for erotic pornographic materials flow through the enlarged U.S. Mail system. The New York City region is its epicenter, primary international entry point into America; and site for domestic production. What a sweet story! Beautiful illustrations and amusing characters. My youngest child is Lola Dutch! Bursting with creativity and energy; interested in everything! But when the day ends, she needs a little hug to help deal with life when it feels like it's just too much. This book was the perfect remedy for day 5 of the flu. The dollhouse book jacket was a delightful surprise too. She felt well enough today to have a birthday party for Lola complete with streamers! Can't wait to see what Lola does next!

I've been waiting for this book for some time now, as I am a big fan of all fabric designed by Sara Jane Wright. As a retired Kindergarten teacher and a Grandma, I was delighted to find the story was just as perfect as the illustrations! This book doesn't just hint that creativity in childhood is important, it teaches by example. The puppets to cut out and use with the jacket for story play is such an inviting way to allow each child who reads this book to become the author of Lola Dutch's next amazing day. Clearly, this author/illustrator team respect and trust the imagination of every child. Lola Dutch is perfectly much!

Lola Dutch is an absolute delight. I can’t tell you how much we’ve giggled with glee as we’ve read this book again and again over the past few days.The illustrations are so charming and we are a huge fan of Sarah Jane's work - we have several of her prints in our kids' rooms. But I think the most delightful part of the book for us has been the story by her husband, Kenneth Wright.Both of my kids love to create and draw and write and have huge imaginations, and I love that the main character Lola Dutch has a little group of animal friends that love her and support her creative endeavors in different ways - they jump in and start creating with her, and Bear is there offering quiet support. I had a really engaging discussion with my son yesterday (he's 11, and I didn't think he'd even care to read it, but he's read it as many times as my 7 year old daughter has) about how the sweet Bear is such a good, steady presence and loves Lola whatever she does - even if she makes a big mess creating her works of art. And then he compared the Bear to his dad and I and how we support him in what he tries to do. (which may have made me teary-eyed.) I love that he got it. That we make space for people to create and dream and be who they are, and we support each other with who we are.All that from a sweet little story about a girl with a fabulously big personality.

As a Mother of 4, I am very conscious of the message or moral of children's books. Too many stories are only focused on entertainment and not enriching or inspiring kids in their life.Lola & Dutch is the NEW STANDARD for children's books. The message of creativity, exploration, and imagination is a MUST in today's world. Sarah and Kenneth brilliantly tell the story of Lola and her friends. Her art feels so familiar and nostalgic. This is a fine book, but really, just fine. Based on rave reviews I purchased it without looking at it first or checking it out at the library instead. It’s fine, really, it’s kind of sweet, but was not worth owning for me.

This book is so wonderful. If you love Fancy Nancy, Calvin and Hobbs, If You Give a Mouse a Cookie you’ll love this book. The artwork is out of this world and I have found myself staring at the pictures in great detail. The story, the art, the charachters- they will all draw you in and when you’re on the last page you’ll wish there was more. I truly hope there is a whole series of Lola Dutch adventures.

Cover to cover. Word to word. Picture to picture. My children were entranced. And then, to add even more magic, the surprise under the cover!!! Every bit of Lola Dutch is heart and magic.

Oh do we ADORE Lola Dutch! Maybe even a wee bit more than the average Bear but that’s only because we have our very own Lola Dutch in-house. This is a whimsical story about a whirlwind of a girl, the adventures filling her days, and her friends throughout. So far we’ve read this book maybe five or six times. My Lyla hasn’t grown tired of the story and we keep finding new things to discuss on practically every page. I love love love how much value this book puts on the arts and the artistic process. Lola Dutch has definitely not lost her spark. Her enthusiasm for the day-to-day 100% reminds me of my little people and I am sure that other readers will see shades of their little ones as well and me that’s what makes a really good story, when you can truly relate.I am fairly new to the talents of Sarah Jane Wright but my goodness is this a masterpiece. It’s wonderful how much each page enriches the storyline.I’m going to go ahead and say that this book is a must-buy.

I have mixed feelings about this book. The story is chocked full of action, intrigue, high-tech gadgets, shadowy government types who may or may not have America's best interests at heart, and straight-shooting good guys (and women) who have to figure out ways to work together. Hero Jon Reznick is cut from the same cloth as Mitch Rapp, Court Gentry, or Will Robie, a seasoned professional operating in the high-stakes world of espionage, black sites, and assassinations, complete with a tragic back story and a young daughter he tries to shield from his grim work. So, no complaints here.The biggest problem I had with the book is a technical one; namely, the author repeats many of the same phrases over and over. And over and over. I lost count of how many times Reznick "felt a surge of anger" or a "rising tide of anger," how often his "mind flashed back" to something, only for him to be "snapped out of his reverie" by a sudden sound, how the characters continually started their sentences with the word "look," as in "Look, I'm telling you" or "Look, here's the situation" or "Look, I understand that..." and so on. And I have never read a story where the characters sigh so much. The last third of the book was filled to the brim with "He sighed," "A long drawn out sigh," "She sighed loudly." I'm amazed they didn't all pass out, they were expelling so much carbon dioxide. The repetition of the same phrases became such a distraction that I couldn't enjoy the book as much as I would have liked. A good editor should be able to give things that final polish.All in all, a solid thriller that will keep you occupied as you lie on the beach or wait for your flight in an airport lounge. I just hope you're able to shut off that part of your brain that notices patterns or you might have a "hard road" ahead of you. Cautiously recommended.

I have no idea why this book has such good reviews, and the further through the book I got, the less good things I could find to say about it.Cons:-It's basically a short story that got padded out to full length and reads like someone's high school writing assignment that was researched entirely by watching bad 80s action films and fast forwarding through most of the action.-If you took out all the parts where someone is *literally* just walking down a hall, riding in a car, or even sleeping, etc and nothing else is happening, the book would be half as long. If you then took out the parts where people are standing around talking about things you've already read about, the book would be half as long again.-The dialog varies between completely unnecessary to almost sociopathic. The characters repeat themselves, phrases, plot points that have been gone over multiple times already, and none of the emotions displayed by any of the characters feel like they actually mean any of them. FBI lady is a particularly bad offender at repeating people's names, especially Jon's, like she's trying to sell Jon a used car. She'll let Jon know that she's talking to Jon multiple times before someone else (perhaps Jon) will get around to responding to her long-winded pointlessness. Jon Jon Jon.-The logical hoops the book jumps through could be an Olympic sport. (I'm not going to put examples for this because of spoilers.)-Blatantly BS science and tech in an otherwise supposedly real-world setting. They plug "retinal scan data" into facial recognition software and apply it to security footage to find their super-hard-to-find bad guy. What?-Speaking of the FBI, they seem to specialize in plot exposition. Don't worry if you can't remember what happened 2 chapters ago, they'll go back over the entire thing again. Most likely with a video conference. They love their video conferences.So glad I got to read through all of those scenes were people just stand around talking at each other, going over the things we already know-Descriptions are all over the place. Sometimes things will be described in excruciating detail and other times I'm left wondering what a newly introduced character or location looks like or why they're even there.-The editing feels like it wasn't part of the process before the book got published. The book is supposed to take place in America, but the characters only talk with American dialect if it's super cliche. Various instances of odd phrasing or terms not commonly used in America really stuck out, such as "anti-clockwise" instead of counter-clockwise, "You've not the clearance for this" when most people would said "You don't have," and "I've not finished [explaining]" when most people would say "I'm not done yet"-The characters are awkward, and Reznick's emotions are unstable at best (he'll go from killing a bunch of people to sobbing without much transition, and not because he just killed a bunch of people).-The book itself doesn't seem to know what it's supposed to be doing. There's no good way to explain it without having read it, and I cannot in good faith suggest reading this book.Pros:-I only paid like 2 bucks for this garbage.-At times it was bad in a funny way, so at least I laughed occasionally

My expectations were lowered by some reviews but in fact this is a very well-structured action thriller. Unlike another more highly rated thriller I read recently speech seemed natural and believable. Also believable are the hero and his reactions to his lack of the big picture and even those of the heroine, whose situation and reactions must be harder for the author to research.Sets a cracking pace from a quarter in and the narrative flies by.

My good fortune to come upon J.B.Turner. So glad. His writing is right up there with the best of my favorites David Baldacci, Brad Meltzer, Dan Brown, Harlon Coben, Steve Berry. Great book, grabs you from the first page. Doesn't drag on any part of his writing. Lots of twists & turns. Glad I discovered his writings. Already ordered his other 2 books in this series. Great work & a great read J.B, keep up the good work and Thank You

When he gets an order to kill a scientist that is wearing an Israeli dog tags he knows something isn't right. The FBI Agent is dead that was protecting him. Reznick decides to take the scientist then the shooting and running starts. The action doesn't stop until the end. Highly recommended.

I was surprised that several hymns that I considered "well known" were not in here, or had a different tune than I was used to.Personally, I still find it difficult to read the music on one page and the lyrics on the page next to it at the same time, but that's mostly because I'm trying to sing parts. I suppose it works fine for just singing the melody, but I still prefer to have the lyrics under the notes as my memory is not good enough to read a line of lyrics, follow the music, remember where I was on the lyrics to get my next line, remember where I was on the music once I've gotten my next line, all the while trying sing the right intervals and rhythms.

I swear Melissa Greene could write about sawdust and make it thrilling, but in Underdogs she has a sublime subject to match her captivating writing. I laughed out loud numerous times, and fell in love with the dogs, the children and the families she profiles. In fact, her writing is so fresh and lively, there is not a boring moment in this book. But the biggest gift of the book is that it is truly inspiring without being in the least sentimental or simplistic. It became for me a potent antidote to the world news and the stresses of my day. It worked so well to lift my spirits that I didn't want it to end. It is one of those books, I would read again when I need a convincing reminder of the power of love.

This book drew me in almost immediately. The stories in this book of damaged people whose lives have been totally turned around by wonderful, properly trained, loving dogs is so powerful and hopeful. The woman who founded 4 Paws 4 Ability is a true heroine who once she found her lifeline with a magnificent dog, worked wonders for others, tore down walls and did not take not for an answer. Bravo, Karen Shirk. I wish there were more in the world like you. And the dogs. I have always loved animals, but the dogs in this book are incredible and make you look into the eyes of your own "Lassie" to see how special they are. I thought the book might be drier with "dog" science in it, but each section on science or history is paired with with a personal story of how it works now for individuals, dogs and families

I am not a nonfiction reader. As a lifetime lover of fantasy and science fiction, I really ordered this book mostly to support 4 Paws for Ability. This book may have converted me. I was immediately sucked in. Greene weaves the history of dogs, modern scientific studies, and stories from 4 Paws together seamlessly. As a parent waiting for our daughter's service dog (class of August 2017!), the stories of children that could not be reached by anyone until they met their furry best friend. I cried more than I would like to admit. Sometimes with joy, sometimes with sorrow, sometimes simply because Greene describes the isolation of a special needs parent so well that its like she is talking about me. If you know anyone who has a child with special needs, I urge you to buy them this book. Hope is hard to find sometimes, but it is so important. Thank you, Melissa Fay Greene, for writing this book. Thank you, 4 Paws for Ability, for doing what you do.

This book is educational and heart-warming and emotionally challenging, and evokes wide-ranging emotions as one is forced to examine what he or she might done under similar circumstances. From Karen's determined caregiver who forced Karen back into the world from which she had withdrawn after contracting a debilitating disease, to the marvelous German Shepherd Ben, whom she trained when no agency would match her with a service dog, and from that inauspicious beginning, to grow a business that would touch so many lives (dogs and humans), I remained riveted and awed and humbled throughout the entire book.

Her nurse recommended a service dog to assist her and they then discovered that no agency was prepared to "waste" a dog on someone who depended on a ventilator.Her nurse then suggested that Karen adopt a dog and train it herself, Ben, her German Shepherd got her out of bed and back to life.Karen discovered that there were thousands of people being turned away and that not one agency trained service dogs for children. She decided that she would train 4 or 5 a year herself, not realising the impact and demand of her dogs.4 Paws for Ability was born and 1000 dogs later the benefits have been astounding. The story also follows kids who have received one of Karen's dogs, from a children with severe autism or reactive attachment disorder to a child suffering from Fetal Alcohol syndrome - a first again in the service dog industry.The author also delves into the origin of dogs, the DNA that shows up in certain breeds and all the theories surrounding dogs behaviour and abilities. Highly recommended.

N. Gregory Mankiw is Robert M. Beren Professor of Economics at Harvard University. He studied economics at Princeton University and MIT. Dr. Mankiw is a prolific writer and a regular participant in academic and policy debates. His research includes work on price adjustment, consumer behavior, financial markets, monetary and fiscal policy, and economic growth. His published articles have appeared in academic journals, such as the American Economic Review, Journal of Political Economy, and Quarterly Journal of Economics, and in more widely accessible forums, including The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, and Fortune. Chances are you are buying this book because you're taking the microeconomics class online. Because there's like the 10th or 11th edition available now and probably taught in colleges across America. What did they change between the 5th and 10th or 11th edition, you ask? Who knows. I'm positive the publishers don't. They're too busy counting their millions, lighting their cigars with $100 bills and throwing kittens out of 40-story tall buildings and making children cry to drink their tears. So you're buying this extremely old edition probably because you're taking the class online or at a community college. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. This edition is just as or better than future editions. Trust me, I've looked. And I was the poor schmuck duped into buying the latest edition because my professor had it as "required" reading. We didn't even touch the book and went off his lectures anyhow. I dropped the class and took it online so I could actually learn about real microeconomics instead of the murky mindlessness of a quack teacher. This is a great book. Just don't overpay for it. Let's not get crazy. There's newer editions out there so don't pay a premium for this one.

This is one of the best textbooks I've had the pleasure of reading. The first thing that makes this book good is that the author does not fill the pages with meaningless jargon and unnecessary filler. He often dives right into the topic or sets it up by telling a short story that is relevant to the topic. Any kind of mathy topic is written in an easy to understand step by step process. He also provides graphs on many of these topics so you can clearly see what he is talking about, these graphs are accompanied with a short summary containing the important concepts. The author keeps chapters relatively short, though there are 1 or 2 longer ones towards the end. Chapters only take about 25-35 minutes to read on average. This makes them very tolerable to read and makes it much easier to retain important information. Unlike some textbooks where you spend over an hour on a chapter and then can't remember a thing you read, I actually felt like I learned a lot when I read a chapter in this book. The brevity of the chapters also kept me from occasionally looking to see how many more pages I had to go. I also enjoy the writing style of the author. The lack of jargon kept me from losing focus midway through a paragraph or forgetting something I just read. Topics tend to flow smoothly between one another and he often includes both sides of the debate on certain topics. He occasionally goes into real life scenarios that allow you to easily see the importance of the issue and the results of various real-life economic policies. Each chapter also usually has 2 or 3 funny comics or captioned pictures throughout them that are relevant to the topic being discussed. This book will clear up any confusion you have on a topic that your professor may not have explained the best. This is one of the few textbooks that I actually enjoyed reading through. I wish every textbook was this well written and informative.

Buy an earlier edition! This is literally the same thing as Macro by Mankiw 3rd - 6th edition. Way too expensive.

No need for hard cover text. You're literally paying 4 to 5x the amount to just have the pages boned together. When they say looseleaf they don't mean flimsy pages this is text book pages with a cover and outer page with 3 ring binder holes. I had a 2in binder and placed the pages in there and it worked perfectly. I saved so much money and it's brand new in plastic wrap so no one ever owned it before. I wish all my text books were like this!

I am currently a PhD student in Econ/Operations Research. I read this book (page by page) when I was 17. This (and the principles of Microeconomics also by Mankiw, but they are very similar) is my favorite undergraduate introductory economics textbook. Note that this book will not contain any heavy (or even medium load) math. Its a very elementary book, but it hits the important topics on what the field is all about. In fact, I still keep a copy with me (although I have not opened it in a long time). I would say this book really opened my interest (and perhaps my introductory understanding) to the field of economics.Verdict: Highly recommended buy!

I needed this for my Microeconomics class, the font was a good size and it was easy to read. The book provides many helpful graphs that make understanding the concepts easier.

The content of the book is very well done. The concepts are easy to understand and each chapter builds knowledge towards a very good understanding of the principles of microeconomics. There is of course much discussion and examples of demand and supply curves. I think the math behind these curves is important and unfortunately the book stays high level and doesn't provide more in-depth examples or tutorials on how to calculate curves, deadweight loss and other important concepts.

This book was a requirement for my intro level microeconomics course. I would like to being by saying that this book is an incredibly easy read. It isn't extremely boring and dry and it isn't extremely fun with little important information. It contains all of the relevant information. The way the book delivers the information is astounding. You read through a block of text and then the book displays graphical examples with captions below to help interpret the graph. The online homework that I had to do along with the book made retaining the important information extremely easy. Economics comes relatively easy to me, but the addition of this great textbook made getting an A almost too easy. I didn't even show up to lecture about one third of the time because Dr. Mankiw does such a well job of explaining the material.Pros:Easy ReadDistilled Useful InformationGraphical Representation of ContentCons:NothingI would highly recommend this textbook. It is probably the most efficient and useful text for learning introductory microeconomics.
