This is a brief and rather trivial introduction to threat intelligence. There are no references to other books or articles to substantiate what's being taught and written in the book. Perhaps its worth treating the book like nothing more than a long blog-post.First of all you'll not learn how to build an effective threat intelligence program. The treatment of metrics and how to properly evaluate your threat intelligence program is, well, trivial as everything else in the book. Did you know that you could send an email, or make a phone call, to disseminate intelligence to a recipient? Well, now you do.There is not a discussion of how you would collect data, normalise, transform or otherwise prepare collected information and data. How does threat intelligence relate to the various steps of more classic intelligence work? Direction, collection, analysis, feedback etc? How do we know what's being taught is actually effective?What you'll get, in short, is a brief treatment of threat intelligence and a few pointers to get you started. You'll have to do much more research and studying to understand intelligence collection and analysis. This book will not be enough, not by a long shot.

James does a great job in this book breaking down the components of threat intelligence and placing them within reach of executives, laymen, and general IT professionals. I hear a lot how the information contained in the book should be "common sense." I'm glad James made the effort to break that paradigm and outline the topic in a manner accessible to everyone. I'd recommend Effective Threat Intelligence to everyone, because the world needs increased awareness of these topics. This is not only applicable to IT Security personnel. Great job, James! Keep on shouting these messages from the hilltops!

Terrific book!! It gives a great overview up front and does a tremendous job of defining key terms. It looks very directly at some of the key issues , not just inputting indicators of compromise into intrusion detection systems, facing those who hear all the fancy marketing terms, want to get into threat intelligence but aren't quite sure where to start. The author uses humor, speaks very candidly and then asks you questions at the end of the chapters to review what he has discussed while enabling you to think about issues specific to your organization. The end of the book even provides some thought provoking scenarios. The formatting makes the book easy to read in digestible chucks. Not overly technical and could be easily leveraged in discussions with decision makers. All to often you see people looking for the silver bullet solution then paying extraordinary fees for consulting services to be told what they already may know or could have figured out if they had taken time to think about their organization. This book is practical guide and could easily be understood by non-technical managers. I have already shared it with my management to help explain a great deal of concepts.

Stephen Fry is the perfect narrator for this material

I'm very torn about this book. The range of subject matter is very interesting. It includes a variety of topics, such as race, religion and sexuality, through the lens of the Victorian Era. However, I was uncomfortable with the lurid manner in which these subjects were approached and the over-the-top almost taunting way in which they were discussed. These are/were real people and their lives and troubles were not a joke to them and should not be put forth as a joke for our own curiosity and entertainment. Though I thought the research was good and the topic one worthy of discussion, listening to Stephen Fry's Victorian Secrets with its sometimes silly sound effects and condescending narrative made me feel like on the the freak show attendees the book covers.

I enjoyed listening to this audio book. Steven Fry is an interesting narrator. I was fascinated by the information presented and learned a lot about life in the 19th century.

This audiobook was an entertaining and informative listen narrated by the incomparable Stephen Fry. His wit, humor, and charm are easily conveyed to us listeners. The actual content is quite enjoyable, ranging from the history of the washroom, to infamous female criminals, to the sexual appetites of the time period, and much more. Chapters are short and concise, but engaging and interesting. Would recommend for those with an interest in the time period and any who enjoy Stephen Fry's performances.

It sounds like a continuous run of TV promotional commercials. We listened for 45 minutes and could take no more. We had barely heard one story by then, but there were hints of the others. Boring!

This is fantastic. Funny, nuanced, and thoroughly engaging. Stephen Fry is, as to be expected, a gifted narrator. Anyone wanting a quick and dirty look at the undersides of Victorian life will absolutely adore this audible original.

I loved Fry's narration of this program and found myself listening to it in non-driving environments. The mix of original sources and modern subject experts was perfect. And as always, I could listen to Fry's voice forever.Hope he has another program similar to this, I wouldn't wait for my next credit; I would buy it outright.

This was a fun listen to. I’ve learned some fun and interesting facts about the Victorian era. A laugh outloud narration. Stephen Fry does an awesome job!

The concepts are explained in an easily understandable approach, and I appreciated the inclusion of the "Pro-whole-life" lies to balance the topic. For those looking for the truth about Life Insurance this is the book to read; you'll be glad you did.

As with all Kim Butler's books, I wish I had read these sooner in my financial life. This book certainly cleared up many of the misconceptions I had about life insurance. If you are in your early twenties to late thirties, you need to understand these principles now so you can reach your financial goals sooner than people like me who waited until their late sixties to get started. It will cost you less in fewer years to get where I am now at a greater cost. If you are older than 60 and have no savings, start now or plan to die with your boots on. What greater legacy can you leave for your children and grand children than a whole life policy on them from a mutual life company they can use to fund college or whatever life may throw at them? General information about the series (Indidulaized book reviews are below)I don't normally write reviews but I really enjoyed these books. They are Clean, sweet and simple, feel-good books. I am a mom in my twenties (writing under my husband's account) who was looking for a positive, light-hearted, happy story with an uplifting message- this was it! Please don't hesitate to read these.These books are based off of familiar fairytales brought to real-life with romance akin to books like Pride & Predjudice and Persuasion with religious morals to guide them. They are fairytale based so they do end predicably happily but the journey is unique with dashes of familiar sences.Some of these books share similar characters. Although it is not necessary to following the story it's fun to see the characters pop up again. I'd recommend starting with the Healer's Apprentice (Sleeping beauty), then Fairest Beauty (Snow White ), Captive Maiden (Cinderella), then Merchants daughter (Beauty and the Beast ) and Princess Spy. You don't have to read them in any particular order but there are hints in other books that share more about how happy the couples are later.These are clean romance novels whose character's boast young girls who hold to thier self-worth and know that there is someone or something good enough in thier future to value themselves now. They learn that being themselves is good enough. They realize that they are more courageous than they know and are capable of rising to the challenge, especially when they have faith.Violence/Adult situations:Characters do get hurt, braking an arm or getting arrows shot at his arm. You read about blood and how to heal with herbs. Nothing graphic, just the knowledge/description: blood stains under his arm, purple swollen wrist, etc. She does talk about men taking advantage of beautiful madiens but not in a descriptive way. There are some bad guys who try to "force themselves" upon the women and they are forced to fight out of those situations. She also discusses women "being seen late at night with men" and how that "tarnishes a maiden's reputation." It is suggested at but not discussed. Also in Princess Spy we learn a man killed his pregnant mistress- no details (mentioned on first few pages of book). I only mention these things because some parents are more cautious about the situations thier kids are exposed to while reading.This author is religions and all her heroines rely on thier belief in God to guide thier attitudes and choices. There are times that it seems a little sermon like but in truth people of these times were religious. My opinion is also that a couple of the books had modern jargon and more modern religious ideas in comparison to the books' actual period in time. I still found myself adopting some of these religious phrases into my life.I read 5 of these books in 4 days so I felt some of the verbiage across the board was redundant and overused. At times i felt like I was reading English in the 1800's then it would switch to familar phrases of our time. A few male characters also posses a similar idiosyncrasy when they are angry or having a hard time saying something. (Constant "Clenching jaw" action from the menfolk)Now on to the books themselves--☆▪•°•▪☆The healers apprentice:☆▪•°°•▪☆Maybe minor spoilerEnjoyed this book because I was caught off guard a couple times and the plot felt different. There is mention of dark magic, possessions, seeing evil spirits and curses. Nothing too descriptive. (This is the only "magic" in the series so far.)Falling in love, sense of duty, quests, and mistaken or concelled identities. He is betrothed, she is in an apprentice, thier lives have already been written- but why do they share a connection? Why does an illusive suitor frighten her so?Moral: God's power can overcome all things..▪•**•▪.The merchants daughter.▪•**•▪.You'll like this book if you like Beauty and the Beast (Disney version) and Jane Eyre (Orson Wells) and yes I used movie references. Yes, there is a Gaston chatacter, She is a "captive" in the sense that she is honestly seeking to pay a debt, she is genuine in her concern for others. There is also a would-be-murder, a flirtatious friend, riots, and a nunnery. Still, how can she follow her heart when she isn't sure what it's saying? Can she accept God's plan for her? Hasn't he been guiding her to this one thing? Can she protect those she cares for?Religious Moral: The greatest gift is love..▪•°•▪.The Fairest Beauty.▪•°•▪.Plain up Snow White with a different twist on setting. She gets away relatively early on in the story (which is the only action scene, really) so most of the book is on thier adventure to the Cottage of Seven (nope, not dwarves) trying to figure out how they feel and if it could really work. Can betrothal's be broken? Is she really that beautiful?My least favorite of the series due to underdeveloped characters and Sophie seemed rather vapid. Just my opinion, there are others who wouldn't agree.Religious moral: Forgive yourself and others•●○●•The Captive Maiden•●○●•Cinderella, think more the Ever After movie version. I enjoyed the new spin on this story. Jousting tournaments, 2 people sharing the love of thier horses, the strong silent type, actions verses words. Being yourself. Tons of adventure and daring rescues. Definitely a twist I wasn't anticipating.Will she risk loosing her beloved horses to go to the tournament? Can she defy her stepmother? Will she ever escape her relentless captures? Will Valten save her in time?Gesile must learn that wanting something good in her life isn't giving her hopes up. It's ok for her to feel as though she is actually worth more.Religious moral: Trust in God▪-▪-▪-▪ The Princess Spy ▪-▪-▪-▪Loved this one. The main character is viewed as a chatter-box. I liked how she was more relatable as a real girl rather than just being absolutely beautiful like Sophie (Fairest Beauty) and Gesile (Captive Maiden).She isn't someone who was waiting to get rescued, she often times was very capable. Her first thought was to her family and helping them. She uses her nature to gab to her advantage. She finds someone who likes this quaity in her when she thought and knew others did not.Can she be a spy? Will she keep a secret? Can she protect those she loves? Will she be forced to marry?Moral of story: Vengeance is God's and Don't let people rob you of your peace.Sidenotes:There isn't any real magic involved; it's divine design, chulvary, heroics, and bravery....maybe even crazy dumb luck. I thoroughly enjoyed these books because thier essence was familar. These are not literary masterpieces, nor are they meaty in content; nevertheless, they are charming and romantic. There were several times in each book that I was swooning over the moment they realized they loved each other. Simple, clean love stories and we'll worth it. I bought 5 of these books through my amazon android kindle app for only 4 dollars

This is a wonderful series of books. I first found this series when the sixth book The Golden Braid was on a kindle deal, and I just fell in love with it, and knew I had to read the rest of the series. They are all very sweet clean fairy tale retellings, with great Christian themes throughout. Melanie has fast become one of my favorite authors, I always look forward to reading more of her books. My favorite book is The Merchant's Daughter which is the Beauty and the Beast retelling. In fact I recommend starting with that one when first reading the series. The first book, The Healer's Apprentice has some elements that are somewhat different from the rest of the series, it has to do with the bad guy plot, and I have been glad that I didn't start with that one. All of these books are very good and enjoyable and fun. This is a great way to get the first five books for a reasonable price, this is a better deal than buying the five books individually on kindle. Overall if you're looking for a great Christian themed series and love fairy tales, I cannot recommend this series enough.

The Healer’s ApprenticeI enjoyed this story and found myself comparing it to already familiar to me fairytales. Of course these stories are more realistic and focus on trusting God.The Merchant’s DaughterThis so far has been my favorite with the similar themes from Beauty and the Beast. I love Annabel’s joy for getting the privilege to read the Bible’s good news for the first time. I always love books where people see past the outward scars or prejudices to the beautiful person inside. I also love how the characters exhibit the Word through their words and actions.The Fairest BeautyI enjoyed this adaptation of Snow White. I loved the different spin on the 7 dwarves and the element of a love triangle or not really.The Captive MaidenA strong silent type hero and a brave heroine with moral character but shared insecurities of rejection and a desire to know God’s purpose for their lives.The Princess SpyA heroine perceived as overly talkative and flighty proves her worth to others and herself. A hero bent on revenge and impulsiveness turns to justice through the help of the heroine and God.

My favorite of this series was The Fairest Beauty, all of the others have shuffled in behind that one on my favorites list. This one was lower on my list of favorites.I did appreciate the fact that this book tied in the Le Wyse family line with the Gerstenburg family. I didn't understand why we followed one family line in Germany for almost all of the series, and then had one book that randomly took place in England. But at least in this story they were somewhat brought together.Collin was a sweet male lead, and I appreciated getting to hear the end of Margaretha's story.I did find some inconsistencies in here involving language gaps that would be there one moment, and then didn't seem to be a problem the next.Dickerson has a sweet heart and these are light, easy reads.

I purchased this book because I strongly suspected one of my children had an auditory processing disorder. He seemed to have normal hearing when we tested him by whispering, saying his name when his back was turned, etc, but he had a lot of trouble with following oral instructions, misremembering what was said to him, etc. This book was a great resource to help me understand what my son was experiencing. The book is very easy to read, very understandable, written in a somewhat conversational style with lots of helpful examples.I would have liked more specific information about the different types of auditory processing disorder, therapy for the various types, etc. I wanted to go into his evaluation fully prepared and armed with all the information I could get. However, this book is probably informative enough for the average parent.What I most appreciated about the book was that she was both optimistic and realistic. She made it very clear that much could be done to help with the various difficulties, but also recognizing that not everyone will be able to overcome all their difficulties completely. Realistically, that their auditory processing disorders, even after therapy, may place some limitations on career, etc. But, none of us cannot truly be anything we want to be, as we each have our own areas of weakness and difficulty. I appreciated the fact that she didn't allow the reader to believe that there was a magic pill that would totally fix APD for everyone.As for my son, it turned out that we were right about his hearing being normal and in thinking that he had APD. He has significant difficulty with auditory memory and with hearing when there is background noise. This book gave us a better understanding of what he is dealing with. I would definitely recommend this book to parents of children with (suspected) APD.

This is the go-to book on Audio Processing disorder. It is well written and provides anecdotal information which is unbelievably helpful if you have a child in your life who is struggling in school. Use it to rule out APD so the professionals can help with a correct diagnosis to get your student on track. If nothing else it will help you understand how APD is often misdiagnosed in a child and as a result, medicated for ADHD or ADD. Obviously, it is not a light-reading type of book. If you truly want to understand how the brain interprets sounds, written in layman's terms then please grab this book immediately. I have sent this to friends and relatives so they can better understand what their children and grandchildren (and in some cases themselves)have been struggling with.Dr. Bellis is truly a gifted writer and you will appreciate the case studies of children and adults who have been diagnosed with this disorder. I can't emphasize enough the fact that the information in this book can be life changing for many people. I hope it helps you as much as it has helped me and my family.

This book is a lifesaver for me. It explains so many things! I have to watch tv with the subtitles on because I can't understand the words even though there is nothing wrong with my hearing. I don't like music much, even though I love to dance and am a fairly serious ballroom dancer. I get irritable when I am forced to be in noisy environments, and trying to have a social meal in a restaurant is torture for me.Although I knew I had APD, until I read this book I didn't understand much about it. By giving me an understanding of how my hearing differs from that of others, this book has benefited me socially, in educational environments, and in the workplace. I now understand why I cannot stand to have a radio playing in the background, why attending class in school was often counterproductive (I learned much better just by reading the material), and why I often need to ask others to speak slowly or say something again. Now that I can explain what is going on, most folks are happy to help me in any way they can. Before, they just thought I was hard to deal with.The book contains a vast amount of information. It covers a broad field and unless you are in the field of audiology, speech pathology, or the like, most of it will not apply to any one individual. However, the information that does apply will be significant and well worth the cost of the book.

This is a must read for a caregiver with a child with ADP disorders as well as other brain disorders. This book is very thorough and I have not seen any other books that explain in lay terms what to do and expect. A must for ADP and learning about it.
