About the Author

Randy Leffingwell wrote his first book, American Muscle, in 1989 while still on staff at the Los Angeles Times. Since then, he has authored another 47 titles for Motorbooks and its sister publisher Voyageur Press covering subjects from sports cars to motorcycles to farm tractors. Leffingwell is considered one of the top Corvette historians working today, and he enjoys a close working relationship with Chevrolet as well numerous other manufacturers. His  previous Corvette titles include Art of the Corvette; Corvette Fifty Years, Corvette 60 Years, and Legendary Corvette. He lives in Santa Barbara, California.Tom Loeser has worked as a Firefighter for the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (now known as CAL Fire), as a graphic designer and photographer, and as chief photographer for the Long Beach Grand Prix. Since 2012 he has worked full-time as a book photographer provided images for Motorbooks titles Art of the Corvette, Art of the Mustang, Wide-Open Muscle, and Classic Motorcycles: Art of the Speed. My review is for Art of The Corvette(Both Regular Edition,Blue 66' Roadster on Cover/rear and the Limited edition(500copies)67'Blue Headlights up Cover)Versions.Both are Visual feasts for the Eyes,Superb and Elegant.I have The regular version and the Limited Edition #482 of 500 from Amazon.The Limited has a different cover also a Art Print,limited to 500 copies and signed by the author and comes in a elegant Slipcase,It comes with a Print that you can frame it comes inside the book,the book inside itself is a red hardcover for the Art of The Corvette Limited,and the slipcase is HUGE,it is what is pictured for the limited on Amazon and elsewhere which is the Blue 67' Roadster Lights up,the non-Limited comes Hardcover with Dustjacket and blue 66' Roadster on cover.As for the "Regular" edition,regular or non-limited it is still a great book,beautiful photography as Usual The Author does not disappoint with his writing and Photography,Although there are no Racers which I believe should merit a Book of its Own Art of The Corvette Racer,I recall pitching "Art Of The Corvette" when I started to see all the "Art of" Transport Books so I am glad my recommendation or call it luck was taken into consideration. There is no C6 Grand Sport in here,and the C6/C7 Section is short However the different cars featured Including Zora Arkus-Duntov' Personal 63' Z06 Big Tank Coupe and 89'Corvette Roadster(Hardtop). There is so much in here that is beautiful I have to keep going back and appreciate it more just in awe.

Bought for a friend who is a Corvette enthusiast, for his birthday. He loved it!

Great history of the 'Vette and beautiful pictures !

Disappointment given the title. The photography was too gimmiky and as I own a 2011 Grandsport I was disappointed few photos of anything newer. Compared to "Art of the Hot Rod" it was very, very weak.

The Art of the Corvette is an excellent pictorial history of the Corvette from the first 1953 model up to the 2014 Stingray. The book covers many of the milestone Corvettes including the first V8, fuel injection, introduction of the 4 speed manual transmission, the 63 ZO6 “big tank” coupe, the L-88 racing models, the ZR-1, the 1996 Grand Sport, the newer Z06 and ZR1 models and many other Corvettes of historical significance.Along with the numerous illustrations there are also informative textual explanations of the various Corvettes that are being depicted. The book would be a welcome addition to any Corvette lover’s library.

This is a book for admirers of Corvette design and beautiful photography. The Corvettes are specially selected models from each generation photographed in a studio setting using innovative "light-painting" techniques to illuminate their styling features. The author describes this technique in the final chapter of the book. The result is extraordinary images and a thoroughly enjoyable book for your Corvette library.

I used the Atkins diet to lose weight when I was in my 30s and it worked!Did I gain the weight back? Hell yes!I am 80 now and want to lose some weight again.So lets talk about Diets for a second.There are diets tailored to help lose weight (as in the Atkins diet), and there are diets tailored to help you eat healthier (as in the Candida Diet) that I have reviewed previouslyBoth of these diets are wonderful and they WORK!I lost weight on the Atkins Diet AND I felt well too.I felt well on the Candida Diet AND I lost weight on it too.(I have reviewed this diet too, if you are inclined to read it)The Atkins Diet works because: A.) Most of us eat more than we need and the excess energy that results is stored on our body as fat. B.) It takes Carbohydrates to break down Protein and turn it into energy. C.) When our Carbohydrates intake is too low, your body gets the Carbohydrates it needs from the fat it has stored for just such an occasion.(a lose analogy might be when you put gas in your car during a 500 mile trip, the gas in the tank is turned into energy and used every day during that trip but in the city the gas we have put in the tank is stored there until we need it)This little book defines food items in terms of grams of Carbohydrate per oz and is essential on the Atkins diet.My take away from MY life experiences with my diets is:1.) Processed foods are generally bad for weight loss and maybe your health .2.) Fast foods are bad for your weight and probably your health too!3.) Anything you eat out of a bag off the market shelf is bad for your health AND bad for weight.4.) Unfortunately, the more affordable the food is, the worse it is for your health and weight.5.) Eat small portions, choose what you eat AND balance that with how active you are during your normal day.6.) Eat higher quality foods, if you can, try to stay away from beef, chicken and turkey (the logistics for providing those to market are a horror story).7.) Diet (I love Diet Pepsi) AND sugar loaded drinks, bad for everything!If you can find your way through the 7 items above, during your life, you wont need to exercise you brains out at any specific age.My perception runs contrary to the popular idea of exercise, exercise, exercise because your body NEEDS it?I think our bodies are designed to TOLERATE exercise and a certain amount of abuse (except maybe in certain genetic inheritances)Bottom line:The Atkins Diet works and works well, the question is: after you get off of it (or any diet) will you resume your "normal" eating habits? If so, you will simply be headed right back to where you were before so think about an "exit" strategy.........what will it be?

If you are on Atkins this is the one to get because it does show net carbs. There is sufficent information to guess estimate almost every food. Other guides offer more specifics on fast food resturants, but the formula for those places is simple: ditch the bun, fries, and anything breaded.Update: this is still the best book, but after I used it for a while it is no longer needed. If you are overly obsessed with numbers, this eating style will not last. Simply strive to eliminate all carbs, enough will sneak in to keep you balanced. Once you cave into carbs you will want more & more. If you must occasionally enduldge, do in extreme moderation. Having said that, this is the best carb learning tool.

This book is indispensable if you are counting carbs or calories. Very useful and easy to use. JUST DON'T BUY THE KINDLE EDITION AS IT IS A TERRIBLE CONVERSION. But the paperback is compact ( 4" x 5.5") and very convenient. I like it so much I bought a second one to keep in the RV.

I carry this in my purse everywhere that I go so that I can always find out the net carbs in everything. This way I never have to worry whether something is going to sabotage my new way of eating. This little book is all inclusive, so whether you are at the grocery or convenience store or a restaurant, you will not have to do any guessing, The table of contents makes everything easy to find since the book itself is not in alphabetical order. There is also a section on fast food as well as Indian, Chinese, Mexican, Thai foods and more.

This nook has exceeded my expectations. I have lost almost 20 pounds of weight using tjis program. It is a well known diet plan that is proven to work. This book explains the program easily and how to continually loose weight when you reach a plateau. Good purchase, great little book that not only gives you carb counts but also fiber, protein, fat and calerie counts. Covers everything, plus good tips!

i guess my disappointment with this booklet, is that it is so out of date. since i purchased it, i have discovered several much better free carb counter apps, as well as a free downloadable PDF at atkins.com which is much more comprehensive.the problem with all carb counters is that they all give varied carb counts for the same items, and most of them (including atkins PDF) give so many options for 1 item, it gets really confusing as to which option is the correct one. i've even discovered different carb counts on a particular brand name item (app & PDF count different from label on jar??) dumbfounding and frustrating.

Lost 7 pounds in two weeks already, but there's no way I can follow all 4 phases of Dr. Atkins' "diet" without counting carbs, so I ordered this little book. I thought it was overpriced because it is a very small book, but since I felt it necessary to my ongoing weight loss program (and it is), I ordered it. It is well organized and quite easy to use. I have also ordered an Atkins journal to help me "be honest" with myself. Once the carb restrictions are relaxed it becomes hard to resist temptations. During the first phase of Atkins, you simply cannot succumb to temptations and say that you are "doing Atkins." Any carb counter will work, but THIS one is special in that it counts "net carbs" for you- a real convenience.

I expected a more current listing of food products. There are no Greek Yogurts listed, none of the more current foods and brands that have come on the market since 2002. It was NEW in 2002 compared to the original 1996 release but it is still pretty dated in terms of the food listings which is what I think most people are looking for. It's time for a complete update on the Atkins gram counter.

Berklee has been in the business of teaching music to a diverse population of students for decades. They are experienced professionals at this. So there should be no surprise that the instruction in their music theory books is clear, concise, complete, well organized, and well-sequenced. The instruction is specifically targeted to piano/keyboards; even so, guitar players may also benefit from this training.This book was designed to be used in a class at a music college, with a music teacher. As a student workbook for such a course, this book would deserve a five star rating. I gave it a four star rating because it does not include the explanations that the instructor would (perhaps) normally provide. It would probably be best if you went through these music theory books with a music teacher (perhaps two or three chapters per week) as an integrated part of instrument instruction. Because of the lack of detailed explanations, I doubt that a self-studier could learn this material.Book 1 focuses on learning how to read and write music notation, as well as the major and minor scales. Book 2 focuses on harmony, including chords (triads, seventh chords, etc.), inversions, and voice leading. Each book develops listening, reading, and writing skills through exercises and "ear training" (included on audio CD).By way of contrast, The Complete Idiot's Guide to Music Theory, 2nd Edition is much better at providing detailed explanations (with an easy-to-read narrative). This is a textbook that is intended to support a music college classroom/lab course with a music teacher. I really doubt if anyone could self-study their way through this book. You might want to try to get your public library to buy one, so you can take a look before buying. (It is rather expensive.)

It is an OK book on music theory, very general, would like to have more exercises.

Do not buy this book, On the very important topic of voice leading, the book correctly says look for smooth voice leading, but does not cover the preliminary and essential topic of the circle of fifths and alternative chord progression which also control where voices move NOR does it say anything about the 3rd stepping up or the 7th stepping down - rudimentary voice reading concepts. Also, the book shows how to build many different kinds of chords but says NOTHING about how to use the chords or where the chords fit into a musical chord progression - knowing how to construct a chord is of little use unless you know how to use the chord. The book also briefly covers chord inversions, but does not say anything about inversion qualities or uses. The best introductory music theory book I have seen (I have more than 2 dozen in my library) is any version of Tonal Harmony. If you are taking a music theory class, you need the version the class uses. If you are studying theory on your own, get the cheapest used version you can find. Tonal Harmony covers all of introductory music theory and explains concepts in a straight forward manner.

Berklee books are the way to go for the musician who wants to advance their knowledge.

Gave it only a 3 because I was expecting something a bit more advanced. For a beginner it probably is a very good introduction.

I chose this rating because it gets straight to the point about how chords work. I know this book is designed for use in the classroom but you can use it outside of the classroom as well. I recommend this book to people who are wanting to learn the beginning stages of chords and their basic use. Then you can go further with more advanced instruction.

Seems the most important women in my life need the next big breakthrough the most! Actually, I really need it. Then I realized that time is of our essence.I really appreciate how well written this book was done. Thank you!

A very readable and clear explanation.Best before The Beautiful Cure; both have their place.Does undersell the downsides. See vendor sites for adverse reactions, hints about what proportion are helped, what proportion are harmed, and what proportion go through being a patient and getting their hopes up with no benefit (per cancer type). Even with that information, it is hard to tell what the quality-of-life trade-off will be for any potential patient (time as patient + side effects vs. amount of extended life at what level of health).

I am a stage 4 cancer patient who has been receiving immunotheropy treatments for several months. This book put what I have been going through in a much needed historical perspective. I had no idea of the complex history of what may be the biggest breakthrough ever in cancer treatment. The author does a fine job of making highly technical material regarding microbiology understandable although a few things were simply beyond my comprehension. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who has been diagnosed with cancer or has a loved one facing cancer treatment. Hats off to the wonderful researchers who refused to give up on the idea of immunotheropy even when the odds were stacked against them. And hats off to Charles Graeber for telling their story.

Well worth the read to understand what is happening in the labs and pharmaceutical companies relative to unleashing our immune system to fight cancer.

Once I started, I was hooked - possibly due to the fact that cancer has touched everyone's life in varied ways. Thank you for the stunning insight into these exciting possibilities! Such a great book. Truly riveting and fascinating. It's a page-turner that reads like a true crime story as the author explains why cancer has been so difficult to treat and cure. He writes for the layperson but does not dumb it down. Fascinating explanations of the immune system and why cancer has evaded its otherwise meticulous system for attacking disease. It looks at how different treatments thru the years have tried to enable the immune system to finally "see" cancer and attack it. Read this book, I promise you will learn so much and come away with a better understanding of this topic and the human body. It's at once a history, physiology, mystery, medical, and true crime book filled with poignant and thought-provoking portraits of patients who lived, those who died, and tenacious doctors who put on detective hats and saw connections others did not. I couldn't put it down. I imagine this book gives enormous hope to cancer patients and their families and it left me thinking we really are on the edge of conquering this.

This important and well-written book describes the efforts of brilliant and dedicated researchers to find new treatments against cancer, using immunotherapy, which offers great promise. It is hard to believe now, but the human immune system was once considered almost irrelevant to treating cancer, because of the disease's remarkable ability to avoid (at the cellular level) detection and action by our natural defenses. The author traces the courageous efforts of a few scientists and doctors to uncover some key secrets about the inner workings of our (incredibly complex) immune system. The "breakthrough" discoveries are clearly described, and make for fascinating reading. In simple terms, cancers often inhibit the "gas pedals" of our immune defenses, as well as activate the "brake pedals" which naturally exist to prevent excessive immune responses. Based on these discoveries, there are now numerous pioneering drugs being tested which hopefully will prevent and/or treat many kinds of cancers by enabling effective action by our immune system. Often times in high school if you’re a girl and you have sex, you’re automatically considered a slut. However at the same time you could be a girl and not have sex and you’d be labeled a prude. Now if it’s a guy who’s having sex, he’d probably be congratulated and a guy who’s not having sex might be the butt of all the jokes. The V-Word brings to attention the different situations that every person goes through when they have their first sexual experience. It shows you the good, the bad, the sad, the happy, and the unexpected.The V-Word is very important because of it’s focus on showing that there really is no normal to this sort of thing. As teenagers we grow up seeing movies and TV shows where the first time is romantic and sweet and perfect, just how we imagined and this becomes something that can be harmful to our psyche. It can teach so many lessons to so many people and it can even just open a teen’s eyes if their education is lacking. This is an important experience and even though it doesn’t have to rule your life, it should still be given a semblance of significance because it has multiple potential negative outcomes if it’s not taken seriously.Review in Review:I really liked The V-Word. It’s a book that I think teenagers should read. Too often young people get a grand idea built up in their head about how something is supposed to turn out, but when reality hits and it happens, they’re not sure what to do. This book shows the vast variety of possible situations out there and it teaches how to be ready and different ways to handle it using real life experiences.

I first heard about this book on a podcast when the author was a guest. I have to say that this book and the author's message has been instrumental (and almost life-changing!) how I'm now guiding my teen daughter! The message that there should be no shame or "loss" with one's first time, and the fact that it certainly doesn't matter in what form (e.g., straight, gay, trans) one's first sexual experience is, is breathtakingly refreshing. And it's a HEALTHY attitude! The author drives this point home and keeps it relatable, especially for younger readers.I wish that I had received this book when I was a teen and I know it would have helped me have a healthier attitude in general about sex. When my dad found out I "lost" my virginity, he told me that he wouldn't punish me because I had "already lost enough." Wow. This book made me realize how wrong that was of my father and it has taught me how to approach conversations about sexuality in a loving and compassionate way with my teens. Life changing for all. I couldn't more highly recommend. Thank you, Ms. Keyser!

This collection of 17 stories is amazing. The names of some of them tell a lot: It Would Not Be an Understatement to Say I Knew Nothing; It's a Nice Day for a White Wedding; The Lion Poet and It's All in the Choosing, to name a few. Some very brave women trusted the author to tell their stories. I think she honored that trust.

Boring

While I like anthologies, for me I usually love a couple essays/stories, like a few, and skip a few. It just seems to happen when there is a mix of writing/authors. In this case ALL the stories were really strong ranging from 3 stars to 5 stars and I didn't feel the urge to skip any of the stories.The best part of this anthology is how different all the voices are, the stories. We are brought up with such a weight attached to virginity, to this idea of it being lost/taken one day and that being a monumental thing. The stories of these women and their first sexual experiences were all so different--marginalized groups were represented by far more than just one story--that regardless of whether you're reading this for information as someone looking to hand in your V-card or as someone who long ago got that card stamped it is a reminder of how different women are. We all come from different places, our brains are all filled with different thoughts, emotions, wants, ideas and as much as society might tell us what virginity means it is completely different to each individual.There were hilarious stories, a bit sad stories, honest stories--it read like a great group of friends each telling their first time story. And beyond that there's the getting to know and understanding yourself, body-image issues...And for anyone who might need or is looking for actual information the book ends with a lot of resources.

The Hiding Place by Corrie ten Boom is one of my all-time favorite books. I was excited when I found this book as a way to introduce my children to her. I thought the authors did a great job in helping young children understand what an amazing woman she is!Corrie and her family lived in Holland. They helped the Jews escape the Nazis and were eventually caught. She and her sister were sent to live in a concentration camp. It was a difficult time and there were tears in our eyes as we read certain parts. One of the things that surprised me the most when I first read her story was her age--she was actually in her 50's when she was caught. Her story is filled with miracles, faith and forgiveness, and is one that will inspire people of all ages!

I purchased this book for my son after he finished the book about Brother Andrew in the same series (Christian Heroes: Then & Now). All the books in this series give kids a wonderful introduction and overview of the lives of those who have dedicated their lives to serving God.I had read The Hiding Place this year, and after discussing it with my family, my son told me he wanted to read it. I was a bit hesitant, since there were some parts of the book which might be a little traumatic or descriptive for a young reader. So I was thrilled to find Corrie ten Boom: Keeper of the Angels' Den.This book was perfect. It told the story of Corrie ten Boom in an age-appropriate, but still accurate manner. My son was amazed at all Corrie and her family did to help others, and all they were willing to give up in order to do what they felt God wanted them to do.I highly recommend this book, and others in the Christian Heroes series.

We've now read several of the books in this series, and have loved every one of them so far. This book is no different. We used this book as a read-aloud for my 2nd-grader, and both of us got so wrapped up in the story, that we set aside the rest of our schoolwork for several days so we could finish the story!This story, in particular, touches my heart. Ever since I was a child, I would think about the victims of the Holocaust any time I had a particularly bad day, just to remember how blessed I am to live in this day and age. These stories are helping my children, now, to realize how blessed we are--that our discomforts and disappointments are nothing compared to what so many other people have and are experiencing. The lesson in this story, "There is no pit so deep that God's love is not deeper," still rings true today. I hope this book made a firm impression on my daughter, so that when she faces tough times, she will trust in the faithfulness of God and His love for her.

Powerful and amazing and heart-gripping. I read this out loud to my kids and we all were so moved and touched and impacted by it!!

This book will inspire you and teach young and old that God can do extraordinary and marvelous things even in bleak and terrifying surroundings.Corrie Ten Boom was an ordinary watchmaker's daughter when her family was arrested for helping Jewish people escape the Nazi's. They were taken to prison and suffered greatly under the hands of their captors. Yet Corrie and her sister always looked towards God and where thankful for all of the blessings he gave them, such as a patch of blue sky, a hidden Bible, the women they read the Bible too. This book tells the story of Corrie and how she survived the war and went on to help others by telling them about God's love and forgiveness. Corrie learned a lot from her prison experience, but most of all, Corrie learned that by leaning on God, she can share God's love and forgiveness to all, even to her enemies and those who hurt her.

This magnificently written Christian biography book is perfect for a book report, particularly for a student who attends Christian private school or who is homeschooled (as my 13 year old son). Corrie ten Boom truly went through hell on earth just to satisfy God in Heaven; when it is my time to go, she is one of the many individuals I would love to meet when I get there! Should you read this book, prepare your heart (and perhaps a hankie). My opinion, not enough stars to rate it! :-)

all the books that i have read written by Ms. Ten Boom are inspirational and awe inspiring...the things that God did in and through her are amazing. What a beautiful woman of faith she was.

Inspiring and instructive about how totalitarianism works. Keeps your attention. The audible version was worth the extra few dollars. Very engaging and yet professionally done.
