the book could have undergone at least one more edit, assuming it had already had at least one. Misplaced modifiers galore. Missing punctuation. Transitions? Very few. I could go on. At the end I wondered whether this line of books is supposed to read like the Reader's Digest Condensed version. Or, as I suspect, editors don't edit anymore. The 4 stars are for storyline.

The Secret Orphan is by Glynis Peters. This book is set in England beginning in 1940 during World War II. It also skips to the present, nearly sixty years later, where a woman is dying and she begins to relive her life.Elenor was summoned to her Aunt’s home and reluctantly went. At least she was getting away from being a slave to her brothers. The only affection she had had was when her Mother was alive. Their Dad had a very stubborn opinion that women were only there to take care of their man. Therefore, it was her responsibility to take care of him and her twin brothers. When he died, things just became more difficult for Elenor. Then, their Aunt summoned her to come take care of her. Her brothers simply said goodbye and left it at that. Elenor loved her family farm but knew there was no place for her. At her Aunt’s home, she was expected to take care of her aunt and learn to be a lady. It was difficult for Elenor; but she did her best. Her aunt lived in a house with a housekeeper and her husband and daughter. George, the husband, was a tutor and was gone a lot. Victoria cooked and kept house while raising their daughter, Rose. Other than giving her a place to stay and food to eat, neither paid much attention to Ruth. Ruth and Elenor became good friends as both were lonely. For Rose, Elenor put up with George’s chauvinistic ways. Then, her aunt died leaving Elenor alone. She went back to the family farm for safety and because it was now hers alone since both boys were killed in the war. Can she run the farm by herself?Rose was a darling little girl who was very bright and a brilliant pianist, even at five. Her parents gave her food and shelter but didn’t give her love. Victoria was lucky to be able to find a position which allowed her husband and daughter to live with her. Victoria was careful to keep Rose away from the main house when possible. After Elenor left for the farm, Rose and her Mother stayed at the house, keeping it going. George was in London on a trip and died in the Blitz. When bombers flew over Coventry, their house was hit. Rose was found alive in the ruin but Victoria was dead. Where was Rose to go since her family was wiped out. Of course, to Elenor. Can she survive the nightmares of the raid? Will Rose adjust to the country?The book is great. It shows clearly the complicated life a woman had during

The best parts of the story are scenes of everyday life at the worst parts of the war. The number of people it took to work on a farm, raising food not just for themselves but overseen by officials trying to produce for everyone is fascinating. The fact that the healthy young men that would have been doing this work were away at war or dead, so it was done by women. The Wikipedia article on Coventry has some historical background to explain a few things that probably most British know but most Americans don't - and a particular plot point isn't explained in the book.

I loved the book. The characters were so real. It was really a good book but I was not happy with the ending, I thought it should of said more. But I still enjoyed it.

How i loved this book!! A story of love and compassion. It had humor and the author had a good knowledge of human behavior. The story line kept moving and was hard to put down. Very goid

Interesting story. I think the character development could have been done better. I found the writing stilted and some things went totally without explanation.There was a mention by Jackson that he had received a picture of a plane from Rose asking about the plane he flew. Rose said she did not send that. The matter was dropped there rather than used as a hint that Rose's father had ulterior motives.Elenor left servants she did not like nor trust in charge of her home and belongings. There had even been evidence that the man had been pilfering her aunts belongings.Over and over, situations were presented that nothing came of. Too many loose ends.

The lack of editing is so bad, it takes what might have been an interesting plot & likeable characters & turns them into annoying exercises in patience. There's a reason it was only 99 cents. If you've got nothing else to read, this might do.

From the first page to the last this story grips your attention and does not let go until the end. I was intrigued by the main character as she is a naive young farm girl who is thrown into situations that she doesn't understand or cannot comprehend where they might go with her or if she will be safe. Sometimes I believe she might be smart and other times I think she might be. But ultimately she make the correct decisions and it's okay. End well.

Another excellent story by one of my favorite authors. If you like to read books about strong men and women, bad guys getting their just rewards, and stories that are well written and just can’t be put down, than finding a new book by R.O. Lane is a red letter day. Milo’s War is such a book.

Mr. Lane you outdid yourself on this book. What great characters and superb story line. This book is a definite page turner with lots of action and great twists. Have read all of this author's books and would highly recommend all of them to anyone that enjoys a great western story.

What a great read. Milo's wife and daughter was kidnapped by Mexican bandits. Milo gets them back. The war begins to bring justice,along the way lot's of thingshappen and family unit. Another great book could not put it down. Keep them coming R O Lane.

I was shocked from the start. Was not sure Milk would be able to get his revenge. Story took several twist and left me wanting to read mode.

Really enjoyed this book. I like when family comes together to solve a problem. Like other RO books the twists and turns keep you reading.

This was a very good book with lots of excitement and a good plot. I especially liked the end and the epilogue. You will enjoy reading this offering from R. O. Lane.

This book is very good. Half of the book is about protecting your home from wildfire. The other half is about homeowners insurance, evacuation, and what happens next if your home is destroyed or damaged. Good information about how to document what you own in case your home burns and you need to make an insurance claim. The book "The Fire Smart Home Handbook" has more information about how to protect your home from wildfire. Both books are worth reading.

Masterson is a great writer, this is the second of her books that I have read. She would have been my neighbor, had she stayed in Colorado. I have read the book, and will continue to use it as a reference as I prepare my family and my home for an emergency.

This book is an excellent resource for those living in WUI to prepare for the risk of wildfire.

Great information and surprisingly interesting! Everyone should read this, even if they don't live in the woods. It's worth being prepared for any disaster.

As a survivor of the High Park fire - one of the largest fires in the history of Colorado - and a 30 year veteran on the local VFD, I was anxious to see this book because I have so many friends & neighbors struggling with these issues in the wake of the fire. I was not disappointed. My first copy arrived in the mail last week. Before the evening was out, I had read enough to decide to buy several more copies. One of those copies was for my dad who lives in the WUI west of Denver & is trying to educate his neighbors about being Firewise. The others were for friends who lost their homes in the High Park fire - all of them are in the midst of some version of the insurance nightmare. Since Linda lost her home in the Crystal fire - a year in advance of the High Park fire - she is much further down the learning curve and her book is very helpful to those of us who haven't figured it all out yet. This book covers the spectrum from how to improve your odds of your home surviving a wildfire to how to pick up the pieces if your home is destroyed. Linda does a great job of putting lots of information in a small book that is easy to read. I would recommend that anyone living in - or thinking about living in - the WUI should read this book (and give a copy to all your neighbors).

Upon the first few pages of reading Linda Masterson's book, Surviving Wildfire, I was struck by strong emotions left over from Colorado's 2012 High Park Fire. The opening pages filled me with a great sense of empathy, and a connection to Linda's story, as well as to others who have lost homes during wildfires. The story of Darius and Temptest is wonderful. I love the depth of the characters and flow of the story. This one I'd different as Darius doesn't want Temptest to change and we see the difficulties this brings. I love Temptest's courage and ability to take care of herself even when she is a trouble magnet and has no sense of direction. I love seeing Darius is a new light with emotions and a sense of humor. Feehan has done it again, writing an incredibly good book. This series just gets better and better!

As a child Destiny was converted by a vampire. Since that time her life's mission has been to kill the Nosferatu. In her darkest hour Nicolae comes to her as a voice in her mind. He trains her in the way of Carpathian hunters, orchestrates her battles, and even "accompanies" her in battle through their mind merge. All the while, he is searching for her yet is unaware that she is his lifemate since she has always refused to speak to him because she believes Nicolae to be a vampire who is stalking her.The backstory of the Vampire Coalition and rebellion against the Prince are elaborated on. Surprisingly, there is also an example of what happens when the male succumbs to the darkness, leaving his lifemate to grow old without him.We meet Nicolae's brother, Vikirnoff, and Mary Ann Delaney (Manolito's lifemate in Dark Possession) along with cameo appearances by Gregori and Savannah are in this book. The pink and purple-haired sisters, Velda and Inez, add colorful dialogue as well. I wasn't really sold on the creepy doctor-who-hypnotizes-everyone thread as it didn't really "fit" in my opinion.On the downside, are the MANY typos....even Vladimir is misspelled as "Vlademir" over and OVER again! It is pathetic that so many of Feehan's Kindle editions are so poorly edited.

I have not read all the books from The Dark Series and definitely not in order, but the ones that I have read I have loved. But not "Dark Destiny", the book was just too bleak and dready and for the first third of the book there was not that much personal contact between the hero and heroine, other than their "mind thing" Also it was very anti-climatic the scene when he first sees her, after so many years of looking for her, it was really all told from her point of view. That was another thing that I did not like about this book, there was not as much of the point of view of the hero, as in the other books.There were two reasons I absolutely loved "Dark Magic" the hero's total devotion toward the heroine. And her celebrated beauty. However, in "Dark Destiny" although the heroine at the beginning is described as very beautiful, that is just about it, take an extra adjective or two. The hero is quite devoted to the heroine, but very stingy with his thoughts when considering her physical attributes, the heroine is far more generous with her thoughts about his looks and I hated that. Even Savannah's beauty (from "Dark Magic") was somehow deminished, in this book: she is referred to as this "petite woman", with a "small face", nothing of consequence.But in the end it was the story itself I did not like. It did not have the feel of the other books. To me it felt (AT TIMES) as if it had been written by a different author, it was conboluted, too much going on and it lack the magical, romantic nature that I had come to expect. There were passages that were indeed enthralling, but not enough of them. The one thing I did enjoy reading about was: how in love the hero was with the heroine, and how willing he was to go the extra mile for her.SPOILER ALERT BELOW:And finally I try to avoid at all cost, reading a story where the heroine is scarred. I thought I was safe with the "Dark Series" since Carpathians heal without scars. Wrong!!! More than half way through the book the reader is informed that the heroine is scarred for life, because she was turned by a vampire, to me this did not advance the plot, and I felt like I had been thrown a curve ball. By the end of the story, the reader can maybe assume that her scars disappeared, when she was healed, but it was too vague for my taste.

Dark Fire was hard for me because I couldn't make up my mine after 4 or 5 re reads weather I like the heroine Tempest Trine/Rusti.I have to keep telling myself that she is very young. Her constant running away from Darius got a bit on my nerves, But at the same time I understood and would have been frighten out of my whits if I encounter a Carpathian believing I was his Lifemate. Every time she ran away trying to get distance between them she got attacked an nearly raped and badly beaten.. She had already been raped by a trusted friend and I don't like rape in any story especially romance stories. They don't add anything to it, even thought this is a paranormal romance. We get enough suspense and thrills in the story with the Vampires or Undead and the Human Hunters looking an attacking women with Physic powers., without adding the rape factor. I was grateful that Christine didn't go into a lot about her rape or Syndil's rape. Syndil was attacked by one of the there group members and trusted family members Savon who turned vampire. All of the characters from Dark Challenge are supporting cast even the Cats Forest and Sasha. Darius of course is handsome strong and powerful Carpathian the younger supposedly death and lost brother of Gregori. Once Rusti and Darius get together the story moves on pretty well. Its just not as good as the first 5 books before in the Dark series. I still Highly Recommend Dark Fire and all of the Dark Series. If you like Christine Feehans books you really should try her GhostWalker series, which is entirely different then The Dark series and it isn't about Ghost, but medically enhanced military men an women. Another Great series by Ms.Feehan. Check it Out

It maybe strange to write a review on a 10 year old guide book but it is still worth both reading and writing about it. We just finished another trip through central WY (Thermopolis and area). The book is well written and organized in a very accessible way. It is still very useful and some of the shortcomings like hotels and restaurants are easy to verify on internet. The history, geography and travel attractions are nicely presented. Few more better quality pictures would help but it is my go to book on WY.

This book was a wonderful travel guide for my family and me when we traveled from southeastern Wyoming to Cody on our way to Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons. The stories about each area were fun to read while we were traveling in the car. Each time we drove though a town someone in the car would say, "Read us all about it."We learned about many historical events and made several side stops that we would have missed completely if we hadn't had the book as a travel guide.We used a couple of telephone numbers that were provided in the book to find hours of operation and one time called for directions to a hotel. This was a great help.When the trip was finished, we left the book with friends in Denver, CO who plan to travel to Wyoming also. I ordered another copy of this book to have at home to refer back to when looking at vacation pictures and to use for future trips to Wyoming.I would recommend this book for anyone traveling to or interested in Wyoming. The historical stories in the book are colorful and entertaining. The author does a great job of describing each area and presenting information for hotels, restaurants, and fun activities. Having the book with us was like traveling with a native who knew everything interesting about Wyoming.

An older but detailed guide to Wyoming that covers the small places as well as Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons. Probably outdated as to restaurants and hotels but a good reference to help decide which ares to visit. A great bargain as a used book.

After previewing and reading other reviews of the many travel guides available on Amazon, I chose the Moon series for my trip. This book is full of detailed information, and covers even the remotest aspects of the state. The information was up-to-date and accurate. Highly recommend!

Moon Publications has another great book. Everything you need to know about traveling to Wyoming. I have used several of there books on different travel locations and they have all been excellent. The detail about the locations is very helpful, from places to eat and stay to points of interest and even directions as well as the local culture. I highly reccomend there travel books.

This book has a ton of great information. It was published in 2006 and because of that I was worried that the information would be out of date. That was not the case at all. A very good book that touches the whole state. Reminder, this is not a book on Yellowstone but it does give you enough information to plan a trip.
