Honestly, this book changed my life. I have been in bondage for years over this idea that I have to be perfect. For as long as I can remember, I have strived to show the world that I am enough… That I am good enough to measure up to all the expectations placed on me by society, my people, and myself. Jennie shares the truth in this book with such grace. We are not enough, we never will be, and were never meant to be. That is why we have a Savior; He is our enoughness when we are not. What freedom this brings to our souls! Freedom in the fact that we can stop striving to have it all together and just be… To truly know that Jesus is enough. Jennie shares, “There is no remedy for your striving apart from finding your identity in Christ. He is your enough, and the degree to which you believe that, is the degree to which you will stop striving, stop performing, stop trying to prove yourself.” Do yourself a favor and order this book today! I fell in love Jennie's writing when I read "Anything" a few years ago. I knew as soon as I heard about "Nothing to Prove" that it would be life-changing. Jennie draws from her own experiences of trying to measure up and be "enough", and why that doesn't work. Her heart-felt, yet real approach to an issue that affects so many. She offers real life application for reconnecting with Jesus. I can honestly say, that after just implementing one application offered in this book, I can already feel a shift. Whereas before I felt very numb spiritually, and this application has helped me to shift that and really go to God with my not enough and allow Him to be my enough. This book will change many lives, and I'm so grateful that Jennie has obeyed God in sharing such a powerful message.

How many of us walk around with our heads held low and hearts weighed down with feelings of inferiority, rejection, inadequacy?The enemy of our soul whispers accusation after accusation (You're not a good mom, you dont deserve that, God doesn't really love you, etc.)While Jennie reminded me that I will never attain perfection on my own-spoiler- she declares that Jesus Christ is MORE than enough for me! His grace is sufficient. His strength is perfected in my weakness. It's His love that fills my empty dry and broken places. You will NOT be disappointed. You will be able to see where you have stopped placing your hope in Christ...and leave encouraged that God is able to meet that need too! You no longer have to prove yourself to anyone!

This is a beautiful truth written in such a genuine way. As women, somehow it is instilled in us at such a young age that WE have to prove ourselves in so many different areas and over time that message is we are not enough and never will be. This striving carries over to our walk with Christ. Jennie reaffirms the scriptural truth that He has done the work for us and we just need to go through life with Him. I would recommend this book to any woman I know. Thank you, Jennie.

Women from just about any background and circumstance will find value and serious truth in this book! My only issue(if that's even the proper word) is page 89. As a Catholic, I oppose the view that Jesus' body and blood in the form of bread and wine are purely symbolic or a "metaphor". Nevertheless, I cried my eyes out from beginning to end, though I'm not surprised. From the moment Jennifer Fulwiler revealed this gem, I just knew it was going to be a game changer. Every page breathed new life into me(my soul, my purpose) and put the source of all goodness front and center; that is the amazing God we serve under. Let's never forget that. : ) Highly recommended.

Book is absolutely excellent. Jennie really speaks to where I am in my life right now. She's good at speaking to all life stages and groups. The product arrived looking great. My only complaint is that even though I ordered two copies at once, one of them is printed just fine, and the other one is missing the chapter numbers on the first page of chapters 7 and 8! The dot is there, but there are no numbers in them.

As a citizen-learner envisioning, advocating and working for a more humane and democratic society, one grounded in love and respect for humanity, I found How We Get Free deep, rich and absorbing. Both the Combahee River Collective and Keeyanga-Yahmahtta Taylor inspire this reader and offer much to ponder about the unfolding struggle. I especially like how this is a documentary work that both reminds us of lessons learned and other lessons missed in the past and asks us to do something crucial with our history: learn from it. I could go on.But I want to talk about How We Get Free from a teacher's standpoint. I assigned it this semester in my university seminar, "Writing American Politics." I almost assigned it to my other seminar, "Documenting Black Experiences," where it would fit nicely, but I needed it to balance other readings (Robert Penn Warren, All the King's Men, Dan T. Carter, Politics of Rage: George Wallace and the Transformation of American Politics) in "Writing American Politics," and I did not want the reading lists to overlap too much. How We Got Free is an excellent teaching book. First, it is short and a brisk, absorbing, serious read. Beyond that, Taylor generously offers us her deep engagement--and an almost irresistible opportunity to make undertake our own plunge--with this Black feminist manifesto born of the late 1960s and early 1970s, which also speaks to many of our current predicaments. Her transcribed and edited interviews introduce us to particularly thoughtful voices from founders of the Combahee River Collective and Black Lives Matter. The willingness of these movements to confront not only white supremacy but homophobic and heteronormative politics is inspiring and instructive. My students enjoying this vista on an earlier generation of Black women's lives and struggles and the thoughtful way that Taylor as both editor and essayist connects that generation with their own generation. Any professor paying attention in the classroom knows that students want to be able to connect historical events to their own generation's wrestling with the world around them. This really worked for my students of all hues, cultures, world views and gender expressions, producing excellent discussions that continued to resonate as we went forward into other conversations.

I am a straight white male, so my views on this book may be biased, however, I found How We Get Free to be a powerful, thoughtful and thought-provoking book on Black Feminism. The book brought back the heady days in the '70s , when almost anything seemed possible, both positive and negative. Having lived through those years I was inevitably confronted by the challenges Feminism posed for men, however, I had no idea that such a thing as Black Feminism existed, though I was quite familiar with Black culture.Most of the book consists of interviews with 3 founders of the Combahee River Collective (and authors of its Statement). Taylor is very good at drawing out her subjects, and letting them speak for an extended period before moving on to another question. She is also good at allowing them to speak in their own voices, without trying to "clean up" some of their stop-and-go syntax or odd word choices. I found this a little disconcerting at first, but it added an interesting dimension to the book.The subjects of her interviews were all very blunt and occasionally sarcastic in their speech. It gradually became clear to me that this was due to both the nature of the topic, and to the comfort they felt talking with Keeanga Taylor. It is clear the three women who were members of the Collective were deeply focused on an economic as well as social analysis of the role and position of Black women in America, and their interviews formed the backbone of the book, for me. Another interesting and revealing feature was its strong critique of the White feminist movement, and why the CRC broke away from that movement. Equally revealing was How We Got Free's commentary on the powerful tension between Black men and Black women, especially Black Feminists.The CRC's Statement came early in the book, and for this reason, I found the Statement difficult to follow, and even more difficult to grasp its importance. After reading the rest of the book, I re-read the Statement, and I recommend this for everyone who is not familiar with the Combahee River Collective and its work.I found this an inspiring book, one from which I learned a great deal. It is worth reading by anyone interested in the anti-racism and anti-sexism movements in the United States.

Brilliant and timely in both its new analysis and the rescuing of a pivotal document. A must read for anyone who wants to understand the world we’re in now and especially for those looking to change it.

This book includes the original statement put out by radical, socialist Black feminists in the early 1970’s. A small read, but very powerful. It's basically just a collection of interviews from black feminists and the creators of the combahee river collective with an interview of the co-creator of #BLM and I recommend it to everyone. It's very informative

Used book not in the best condition. It's big - 735 pages. Tries to cover a lot but doesn't really go deep enough into how the code works. More a "try this code" thing. Most "problems" are design-oriented. I haven't found a solution to my problems in it, but I'm sure I ultimately will.

I've had this book for a while and I still constantly reference it. I've been working with Flex since 2005 and I usually only get a few good tidbits out of a book like this but the Flex 4 Cookbook has been quite the opposite for me. It's chalked with great examples and techniques. Even if you're a Flex guru, pick this book up. It definitely has plenty of gems in it.

Great book, it is always close to hand on my desk and offers a great resource when you start to bang you're head against the code!

This book is a real disappointment. The table of contents is nearly unusable on a Kindle. The concept of presenting a problem to solve, and then the solution is a great idea, but apparently totally lost on the authors. Most problems statements state the solution as the problem statement. For example, the problem statement for 2.5 is "You want to use a custom item renderer to render data items visually within a DataGroup". To an engineer that sounds more like a solution statement. The question is "why would I want to use a ...". There are precious few explanation in the book of why and when one would want to use the solutions.

This is just one of those books every Flex developer should own. With each release, Flex has continued to prove its pedigree as the best framework for developing rich interactive experiences. Flex 4 is no exception (it is a superb example of how an ECMA based language and XML can be combined into a stellar programming environment). It has been overhauled with features that make creating apps an absolute joy; it's as if the developers of the Flex framework personally listened to the community's feedback and integrated the best suggestions. The authors of this book are extremely well respected Flex developers and active community participants, so it's no wonder they produced a book that covers every important detail each new or seasoned developer should know. I've been stuck on numerous occasions, whereby turning to the cookbook solved my problems so that I could go about my day without losing any hair. This book covers all of the new features like skinning, states, the spark component framework, layout management, animation and Air 2.0 as well as covering features from the previous versions. All in all, if you are new to Flex or just need a tip or two (or thirty), this book is well worth the money and won't let you down.

Flex 4 Cookbook is written to save our time. It consists of hundreds of tested recipes for developing Rich Internet Applications based on Adobe Flex 4 framework. It let's the reader to learn not only techniques of solving problems but also reasons behind them. In my opinion the Flex 4 Cookbook should be the most appropriate for intermediate Flex developers. There are a lot of code examples accompanying recipies which are ready to be taken advantage of in your applications. You can also find many references to additional on-line resources in this book allowing to suplement knowledge and understanding regarding a particular topic. The book is extremely useful and I recommend it to anyone who likes to have a solid off-line reference on the desk.

My Favorite Universe is Neil deGrasee Tyson's collection of essays (turned into lectures by The Teaching Company) that were originally columns from a magazine. It's available as a video download or audio only, and I picked up the audio only version during a sale.Apparently, the video includes a lot of pictures that would be missing when you only audit the lectures, which is a pity. On the other hand, if you've watched Cosmos, you probably have seen similar imagery.The huge difference between Cosmos and this lecture series is that Cosmos is much better written. Tyson has a lecture style that frequently pauses (occasionally I would check to see if my phone had stopped playing audio, only to discover that he was simply pausing), and he likes to repeat words for emphasis. None of those verbal tics showed up in Cosmos, which meant that better editing and scripting made the other title much better viewing and listening.Overall, the show covers many astrophysics topics but is subject to a bit too much hyperbole from Tyson. I didn't think it was a complete waste of time, but I think it could have been much better written and edited, and make its key points in much less time and with less repetition. Go watch Cosmos instead.

Neil deGrasse Tyson delivers twelve lectures on what makes our universe so fascinating, and in some ways so different from what we see with our naked eyes and common sense. He covers the probable origins of the universe, why things are, beyond a certain size, mostly round, the age of the universe, the discovery of planets outside our solar system, whether we're likely to find intelligent life, and the probable death of the universe, along with other topics that are more fascinating than we could have guessed.And of course, Dr. Tyson is much more fascinating, educational, and entertaining on these topics than a mere fascinated listener can be.
